get away with
InseparableThe verb and particle never split. The object always follows the whole phrase.
How to say it
Main stress lands on the first particle: get AWAY with. The trailing “with” reduces almost to nothing — expect a schwa, not a full vowel.
The /t/ flaps. Between vowels, American /t/ and /d/ both become a quick tap, so “get away” comes out as “ge-daway” — closer to a fast D than a T.
What it means
To do something wrong and escape the consequences.
- “He got away with it because nobody checked the records.”
- “You won't get away with that a second time.”
