Privacy Policy

American Accent US (“we”, “us”) helps non-native speakers practice American English pronunciation. To do that well, we handle some data about you. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it — in plain language, no dark patterns.

1. What we collect

Account information

  • Email address — to create your account, sign you in, and send critical service messages.
  • Name — to personalize the product (“Good morning, Karim”).
  • Native language (optional) — to tailor tips and surface the sounds most likely to trip you up.
  • Hashed password — we never store passwords in plain text.

Practice content you provide

  • Text you type or paste — sentences, titles, and search queries used to run an analysis.
  • Audio recordings — only when you press record. Recordings are used to score your pronunciation and to let you compare your voice to a native model.
  • Results & scores — per-phoneme feedback, streaks, and exercise history, so you can see progress over time.

Technical data

  • Authentication cookies / tokens — to keep you signed in.
  • Basic request logs — IP address, user agent, timestamps — retained for security and abuse prevention.
  • Connection metadata — once per hour per session, we record your IP, approximate location (country, region, city, derived from your IP via the MaxMind GeoLite2 database), and basic device info (browser, OS, device type). We use this to spot abuse, understand where our users are, size regional improvements, and determine whether the Service is available in your region during our staged rollout. We do not track you across sites, build advertising profiles, or share this with third-party ad networks.

We do not sell your data, rent it out, or use it for advertising.

2. How we use your data

  • Provide and operate the service — run analyses, play back audio, track progress.
  • Personalize your learning — target weak sounds, suggest drills, pick a model accent.
  • Secure the service — detect abuse, rate-limit bad actors, investigate incidents.
  • Communicate with you — account messages, critical updates, replies to support requests.

3. AI processing and third-party services

To analyze your pronunciation and generate native-speaker audio, we use third-party AI providers as data processors. This includes large-language-model services from established cloud providers.

  • The text and audio you submit are transmitted to these providers strictly to produce your analysis.
  • We configure these services so your content is not used to train public models where such settings are available.
  • Processors are bound by their own privacy terms. We may change or add providers over time to improve quality or reliability, and this page is updated when we do.

4. Storage, retention, and security

  • Account and practice data lives on our infrastructure in encrypted form in transit (HTTPS) and at rest where supported.
  • Audio recordings are retained so you can compare past attempts against new ones. You can delete individual recordings at any time from the relevant exercise page.
  • If you delete your account, we delete your personal data (account, recordings, practice history) within a reasonable period, except where retention is legally required (e.g., abuse logs).

5. Your rights

Depending on where you live (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, and similar frameworks), you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data — most is directly editable in Settings.
  • Export your data in a portable format.
  • Delete your account and associated data.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.

6. Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and maintain session state. We do not use advertising cookies, third-party trackers, or cross-site analytics without consent.

7. Children

The service is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete the account.

8. International transfers

Our infrastructure and processors may operate in regions outside your home country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses) for international transfers.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, when appropriate, notify you in-app or by email before the change takes effect.
