go along with

Inseparable

The verb and particle never split. The object always follows the whole phrase.

How to say it

Main stress lands on the first particle: go ALONG with. The trailing “with” reduces almost to nothing — expect a schwa, not a full vowel.

A glide appears. Two vowels meet, so American English slips a /w/ between them: “go along” → “go-walong”. You do not insert it deliberately — it falls out of not stopping between the words.

What it means

  1. To agree to a plan or accept an opinion.

    • I'll go along with whatever the group decides.
    • He went along with it just to keep the peace.

    Similar: agree to, accept
