Midwesterners use characteristic tag phrases:

  • "Don'tcha know" — rhetorical tag at end of sentences
  • "Then" — used to end sentences: "I'll see ya later, then"
  • "Real" as an adverb — "That's real nice" instead of "really nice"
  • "Ya" for "you" — always casual
