through
/θru/12 verbsSomething passes from one end of an obstacle to the other.
THROUGH is about traversal, usually of something hard: get through an exam, go through a list, pull through an illness, see through a lie.
It also carries failure when paired with fall: fall through means a plan collapsed before completion.
What it does to the sound
The TH is voiceless /θ/ — tongue tip lightly between the teeth. Substituting /t/ (“troo”) or /s/ (“sroo”) is the most common slip, and the preceding verb's final stop stays unreleased before it: break through fuses with no popped K.
What THROUGH means
Traversal — go from one end to the other
You cover the whole of something, item by item.
Survival — come out the far side
A difficulty is endured and survived.
