move on

No object

This verb takes no object at all.

How to say it

Stress the particle, not the verb: move ON. Saying “MOVE on” is the clearest learner tell — the verb stays light and the particle carries the beat.

Link across the gap. The final /v/ of “move” moves onto the particle and starts its syllable: “move on” is said “mo-von”. Pausing between the words is what makes phrasal verbs sound recited rather than spoken.

What it means

  1. To stop dwelling on something and continue with your life.

    • It took him a year to move on after the divorce.
    • Let's move on to the next item.

    Similar: progress, let go
