Californian Reductions
Californian English uses many casual reductions in everyday speech:
- "I don't know" → "I dunno" /aɪ dʌnoʊ/
- "going to" → "gonna" /ɡʌnə/
- "want to" → "wanna" /wɑnə/
- "kind of" → "kinda" /kaɪndə/
- "sort of" → "sorta" /sɔɹɾə/
- "got to" → "gotta" /ɡɑɾə/
These reductions are universal in casual American English but are especially common in California's relaxed speaking style.
