Master the /n/ sound — NOW

Module 1 — Articulation & awareness · Lesson 1 of 5

Producing /n/

How to produce /n/

Press the tip of your tongue on the ridge behind your top teeth and let your voice hum through your nose. Keep the tongue there until the end of the sound. Common L2 errors: dropping final /n/ into a nasal vowel, and mixing it up with /m/ (sun → sum) or /ŋ/ (win → wing).

Practice the sound in isolation

Say 'now' slowly. Hold the target sound. Record yourself — does it match your mental model of the native version?

A few varied words

  • Initial: now, name, night
  • Medial: dinner, money, funny
  • Final: sun, rain, green
