Producing /d/
How to produce /d/
Touch the tip of your tongue to the ridge just behind your top teeth — not the teeth themselves — and release with voice on. Between vowels Americans often tap it lightly (ladder sounds like latter). Common L2 errors: a dental /d/ on the teeth, confusing /d/ with /ð/ (day vs they), and devoicing it at the end (bed → bet).
Practice the sound in isolation
Say 'day' slowly. Hold the target sound. Record yourself — does it match your mental model of the native version?
A few varied words
