Master the /b/ sound — BOY

Module 1 — Articulation & awareness · Lesson 1 of 5

Producing /b/

How to produce /b/

Press both lips together, build a little air behind them, then release with your voice already on. Feel the buzz in your throat before the lips open. Common L2 errors: /v/ (very for berry — the lips never fully close), /p/ (voice comes too late), and a devoiced final /b/ (cab sounds like cap).

Practice the sound in isolation

Say 'boy' slowly. Hold the target sound. Record yourself — does it match your mental model of the native version?

A few varied words

  • Initial: boy, best, bank
  • Medial: baby, rabbit, table
  • Final: cab, job, club
