EE + R

Mastering the "EE + R" sound will make your English sound much more natural and clear, especially in common words. It's a key sound for American English pronunciation.

How to make it

  1. Start with your tongue arched high in the middle of your mouth, with relaxed lips, like the "ee" in "see".
  2. Then, glide your tongue slightly forward.
  3. Finally, pull your tongue back and slightly close your teeth to form the /r/ sound, keeping your lips relaxed.

Watch out for

  • Not fully forming the "ee" sound: Make sure your tongue is high and forward enough before transitioning to the /r/.
  • Tensing your lips for the /r/: Keep your lips relaxed throughout the sound; the /r/ comes from your tongue position, not your lips.
  • Skipping the glide: The "ee" sound often has a subtle glide before the /r/. Don't rush it too much, especially in stressed syllables.
