EE + R
Mastering the "EE + R" sound will make your English sound much more natural and clear, especially in common words. It's a key sound for American English pronunciation.
How to make it
- Start with your tongue arched high in the middle of your mouth, with relaxed lips, like the "ee" in "see".
- Then, glide your tongue slightly forward.
- Finally, pull your tongue back and slightly close your teeth to form the /r/ sound, keeping your lips relaxed.
Watch out for
- Not fully forming the "ee" sound: Make sure your tongue is high and forward enough before transitioning to the /r/.
- Tensing your lips for the /r/: Keep your lips relaxed throughout the sound; the /r/ comes from your tongue position, not your lips.
- Skipping the glide: The "ee" sound often has a subtle glide before the /r/. Don't rush it too much, especially in stressed syllables.
